The Minimal Lists: Autumn Wardrobe '19

Those who know me best will know that I have recently developed a certain, ahem... admiration for the literal goddess, Alexa Chung. She pieces together my love of quirky, vintage, one-of-a-kind pieces, with the chic, put-togetherness I can only dream of achieving. Those who know me in even the smallest capacity know I am basically the antonym of chic.

Recently, I've been having a bit of a crisis of personality, so I thought it would be interesting to record my wardrobe for a week(ish) and see if any patterns emerge. That way, I can see if I have any kind of style.

So, in a vague attempt to sort my life out, here's a minimal list of some of my valued wardrobe items, put together in slightly Chung-inspired outfits.

Day 1: Collared Shirt & Jumper

Otherwise known as 'comfy college nerd', when I wear this look, I switch out collared shirts and jumpers with the same pair of jeans for a casual, but put-together vibe.

Day 2: Bright Accessories

When I just want something easy, I'll usually stick with neutrals. In this case, a light coat, my trusty blue jeans and a roll neck tee. But, to brighten it up, I've paired it with some blue-laced shoes and a red lip.

Day 3: Brights & Stripes

One of my favourite looks for injecting fun into my fashion!* I've pair block colours with a pattern, in this case, a mustard skirt with a striped tee.

*Lightly using this word. As previously mentioned, I have about as much style as a fish.

Day 4: Unique Pieces

A mid-spin shot of this patchwork skirt I found whilst thrifting. For a while, I didn't know what it would go with, but I think it's best to let the piece shine, so I paired it with a cream jumper with some matching embroidery. This might be one of my favourite outfits of the week!

Day 5: Colour Fun

We're reusing the beret from yesterday because berets are cool guys. This time I'm pairing it with my trusty Levi's that I picked up at an outlet mall and a thrifted, colourful shirt! I even managed to match the stripe on my jeans with the stripe on my shoes!

So, what did we learn?

Well, I love colour. Every one of my outfits has an aspect of that in it. Also, I think I like the 60s quite a bit - the patchwork skirt, the colour block shirt - I'll be drawing more inspiration from that era from now on.

I'm surprised 3/5 outfits had a pair of jeans in them! I've never been much of a jeans person in the past, just because I think they can look quite 'samey'. But, when I'm really making an effort and wearing something I feel happy and confident in, it doesn't matter what the item is, I can still make it my own!

I wore trainers every day. I like feeling comfy, especially with a chronic illness, and I think trainers can be so versatile! Finally, I usually keep accessories to a minimum; a belt, a hat, some hoop earrings, or maybe a nice bag. I don't like to feel overwhelmed, I guess! There's something I like about the simplicity of block colours and the occasional one-off, thrifted gem.
